The Samuel Goldwyn Company has acquired worldwide rights to "Straight Out of Brooklyn" from 19-year-old filmmaker Matty Rich.
The company announced it plans a June release of the film, winner of a special jury award at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, this past January. "Straight Out" deals with the real life struggles of a black working-class family in Brooklyn.Rich made his film on location in Brooklyn's Red Hook housing projects where he grew up. Rich wrote, directed, produced and acted in the film.

After a 35-year hiatus, Paramount Pictures will return to the production of cartoons with the arrival of three former Disney executives.
Paramount Pictures president David Kirkpatrick, formerly production president at Disney, announced the studio has signed an exclusive three-year contract with Hyperion Animation Company founded by two former Disney executives, Tom Wilhite and Willard Carroll.
The new arrivals are planning an as-yet untitled romantic musical to begin production June 1 for a Christmas 1992 release. The picture would be the studio's first venture into feature-length animation.
