The public will get a firsthand look at safety improvements at the Salt Lake County Water Conservancy District's southeast water treatment plant on Wednesday, May 1.

The district is holding an open house from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the plant located at 11574 S. Wyndcastle Drive (2580 East).Improvements include a new chlorination system that uses liquid sodium hypochlorite instead of pressurized chlorine gas. The new system eliminates the possibility of chlorine gas escaping the plant and harming nearby residents.

David G. Ovard, general manager, said the changes were made in keeping with the district's desire to be a good neighbor while meeting area needs for culinary water.
