The Davis School District hired 13 teachers from minority groups in 1990, more than in any previous year.

The new teachers are Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander and black. In addition, the district appointed 200 women to teaching positions. Women also filled four of seven principal vacancies. "The district presently has 17 female principals - an unusually large representation that reflects the district's commitment to equal employment opportunity," said Mel Miles, director of personnel.
