The Wilson Sorenson Cooperative Education Award was presented at the 21st Annual Cooperative Education Employers Award Luncheon at Utah Valley Community College.
The award is given for outstanding contribution to the advancement of cooperative education in Utah County.This year's recipient is Dennis Farnsworth. Farnsworth, an associate professor of social sciences, has served for 15 years as a cooperative education coordinator for the Department of Humanities, Sciences, and Health Professions at the college. He was also chairman of the annual co-op employers awards committee for nine years.
"Those who receive this award have given a number of years of service," said Carl R. Johnson, cooperative education director at UVCC. "Dennis Farnsworth has done just that."
Farnsworth has taught 22 different courses at UVCC in his 20 years at the school. He currently teaches principles of economics and introductory sociology and continues to serve as a co-op coordinator at the college.
College President Kerry Romesberg spoke at the luncheon and gave praise to the cooperative education participants. "Part of our mission is to prepare people to work. UVCC's cooperative education plays a big role in that. Because of the outstanding cooperation we get from employers, UVCC has the largest and most successful program in the country," he said.
This year there are 426 businesses and approximately 1,200 students participating in the program.
