A Bulgarian physician wanted in connection with a Salt Lake rape was arrested by Salt Lake police Thursday morning after a two-block foot chase through an east-side neighborhood.

Bojibar Bakalov, 37, who is currently on the staff at University Hospital as a visiting physician, is charged with first-degree felony rape in connection with an April 9 incident.The pursuit began shortly after 9 a.m. when Salt Lake Police Detective LeRoy Allen attempted to serve an arrest warrant at 1150 E. 200 South. Officers pursued Bakalov for about two blocks before finally subduing him midway between 100 and 200 South streets on 1100 East.

Bakalov was taken to Holy Cross Hospital for examination after complaining of an injured leg after the capture, Salt Lake Police Lt. Ken Thirsk said.
