An Ogden man has been sentenced to serve up to five years in prison for an Oct. 24 car accident that killed a Weber State University professor.

Jeffrey S. Powell, 29, was sentenced Monday by 2nd District Judge Stanton Taylor. The judge also ordered Powell to pay restitution, to be determined at a later date.Powell had been charged with vehicular homicide, a second-degree felony, but the prosecution agreed to drop the charge to a third-degree felony in exchange for the defendant's guilty plea on March 25.

The state charged that Powell was driving drunk when his car collided with one driven by Michael Cousens, 46, Ogden, on a west Weber County road.
