A half century ago, they hadn't heard of McDonald's. The single-wing power football style was the thing. Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Snoopy weren't even glimmering in the minds of their creators. And there really were "farmers" within the Granite High School boundaries.

The big athletic rivalry was between Granite's Farmers and the Jordan Beetdiggers. World War II storm clouds were gathering (and would take the lives of many class members), and a letter could be mailed for 3 cents.Granite's Class of '41 will gather June 13 and 14 to talk about 50 years of water under the bridge, their senior citizen status and "the good old days."

The gathering will open with a golf event starting at 9 a.m. June 13 at the Meadowbrook course. The following evening, a social hour at 5 p.m. in the Salt Lake Community College Center will precede a dinner and more reminiscing. The college is at 4600 S. Redwood Road.

Those who want to participate in the golf event may call George Ferguson, 943-0159. Dale Glade is taking reservations for other reunion events. He may be reached at 355-4637 or 277-4132. Reservations should be made by May 1 if possible. A $25 fee is being charged.

Reunion planners have mailed about 400 invitations and have extended an invitation to anyone who attended Granite during the years they were at the school.
