Proceeds from a Saturday, April 27, bowl-a-thon will go toward preservation of the nearly extinct black rhino.

Zookeepers at Hogle Zoo and the American Association of Zookeepers will host the "Bowling for Rhinos" fund-raiser from 3 to 5 p.m. at South Lake Bowl, 5600 S. 900 East.Zoo director LaMar Farnsworth and other staff will join the public in bowling, with funds going to Ngare Ndare Forest Preserve, a 52-square-kilometer cedar forest on Mount Kenya in east Africa. The preserve is home to elephants, lions, leopards and other animals.

Fewer than 3,000 of the endangered black rhino remain, half of them on preserves. Contributions for efforts toward saving the animal may be mailed to the Utah Chapter of AAZK, P.O. Box 58475, Salt Lake City, UT 84158-0475.
