A panel discussion on recent action taken by the Legislature to make property taxes more equitable will highlight the Utah Taxpayers Association 13th annual tax conference at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, April 25, in Little America.

Members of the panel moderated by attorney Mark Buchi will be Rep. John Valentine, R-Orem; Utah Tax Commissioner Roger Tew; and Dave Detton, an attorney with Holme, Roberts and Owen.They will discuss the Legislature's attempt to equalize property taxes in light of a Utah Supreme Court opinion that said Amax Magnesium Corp. properties were assessed at a higher rate than comparable properties.

Education strategic planning and school accountability will be examined by Rep. Richard Bradford, R-Sandy; Lily Eskelsen, Utah Education Association president; and John Ross, Utah Office of Education.
