Boston Celtics star Larry Bird, who has missed 22 games this season, reportedly will undergo surgery after the season ends to correct a back problem.
"It's all set," an unidentified source told The Boston Globe. "Larry didn't need much convincing. He's resigned to the fact he needs it."Bird, 34, has had back problems since early in his career, and the condition has worsened. He missed only six games because of back troubles from 1979 through 1987.
Bird's back problem is a compressed nerve root resulting from a bulging disc and swollen joint and congenitally small opening in the spine where the nerve roots are, the Globe said.
