James B. Hayes, publisher of Fortune Magazine, which recently named Salt Lake City as the best city in the United States in which to do business, will give the keynote address May 1 during the first Utah Business Hall of Fame banquet in Little America.

Hayes was in Salt Lake City several weeks ago addressing a group of business leaders and noted that such programs as Junior Achievement and Utah Partnership need to expand to prepare a new labor force for the 1990s and beyond.During the banquet, businessmen Jon M. Huntsman, Joseph Rosenblatt, Marriner S. Eccles (posthumously), Joseph A. Cannon and Obert C. Tanner will be the first inductees.

Hayes joined Time Inc. in 1959 as a member of the promotion department of Sports Illustrated. In June 1984 he was named publisher of the company's science publication, Discover Magazine, and moved to his present position in January 1987.
