In a shuffling of southpaws, the Chicago White Sox have recalled a relief pitcher from Vancouver, Canada, after trading another left-handed pitcher, Rick Horton, to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The new acquistion, Ken Patterson, 24, who made a brief debut with the White Sox in July, appeared in two games against the Boston Red Sox, where he pitched a total of 3.2 innings, the team said Wednesday in a statement.During those games, he allowed two runs and three walks while striking out two.

In return for releasing Patterson, Vancouver, the White Sox AAA farm club, will get two left-handed pitchers, Wayne Edwards and Tony Blasucci, from Chicago's AA-affiliate in Birmingham.

Patterson, a Baylor University graduate, was 2-1 this year in Vancouver, with a 1.78 ERA in 24 games.
