A Clinton woman died in an accident in Riverdale early Sunday, while a Salt Lake man died in a collision up Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Killed Sunday were:Beverley Shaee McElroy, 33, Clinton.

Chris R. Bidwell, 19, 711 Wilson, Salt Lake City.

Riverdale Police are investigating the auto-pedestrian accident that claimed McElroy early Sunday. She was struck and killed by a car near 4008 S. 1250 West about 1:20 a.m. The driver fled the scene.

A police spokesman said Monday that police have asked the state medical examiner for a blood-alcohol test and toxicology report to determine if the woman was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

In a separate accident, Patrick Erney, 20, Salt Lake City, was driving west down Big Cottonwood Canyon and lost control of his car while rounding a corner, colliding with a vehicle driven by Val Johnson, 48, 2546 Kamas Drive, Salt Lake City, according to a Salt Lake County sheriff's office report.

Bidwell, a passenger in Erney's car, was ejected from the vehicle. Emergency officials transported him by helicopter to LDS Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The accident occurred at 1:07 a.m. Sunday about a mile up the canyon.

Erney and Johnson were both injured in the accident, as was another passenger, Corey Buxton, 32, address unknown.
