Support for Sen. Edward Kennedy has not diminished in his home state despite an alleged rape at the family mansion in Florida, a poll indicates.

Most who responded to the poll, which appeared in The Boston Globe, also felt rape victims shouldn't be identified in the media. The senator's nephew, 30-year-old William Kennedy Smith, has been accused by a 29-year-old Florida woman of raping her March 30 at the Palm Beach villa.

By 3-to-1, those polled said events surrounding the incident would have no lasting negative impact on Kennedy's ability to serve effectively in the Senate.

Seventy-three percent said the events would have no impact on their decision to vote for Kennedy, a Democrat, should he run for re-election in 1994.
