Col. Richard F. Reeder, the deputy commander of the 96th Army Reserve Command at Fort Douglas, was promoted to brigadier general Friday at the reserve's commanders conference.

Reeder began his military service when he was commissioned as a second lieutenant after completing a reserve officer training course at Utah State University more than 31 years ago.He served as an armor platoon leader and chemical staff officer while on active duty and has served the reserve command as assistant deputy chief of staff for logistics, deputy chief of staff for operations and intelligence and commander of the 162nd Support Group.

Reeder lives in Bountiful and is the systems and services manager of the Utah State Office of Education.
