One of Utah's oldest citizens, Lettie Critchlow Bickmore, 105, died of natural causes Thursday, April 18, 1991 in Ogden. She was a well-known teacher and musician in the Cache Valley area.
Mrs. Bickmore was born Dec. 21, 1885 in Hyrum, Cache County, where she spent her childhood years as a church organist and pianist in the community.She worked as one of the early night telephone operators in Hyrum where she earned enough money to graduate from Brigham Young College in Logan. She taught six grades in one-room school houses in Mount Sterling and Cornish. She later taught in elementary schools in Hyrum and Paradise and in the Brigham Young College training school.
After marrying and raising several children, she returned to teaching in 1941 at Paradise Elementary because of the wartime teacher shortage. She and her husband moved to Logan in 1952, where she lived until moving to Ogden in 1985.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Tuesday, April 23, in the Paradise LDS Ward Chapel. Burial will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery.
