A 17-month-old girl died Thursday after being run over by a postal truck.
Killed in the accident was:Nicole Ketchum, 672 S. 880 West.
Provo Police Lt. Greg DuVal said the driver of the truck, Steve Story, was delivering mail in a parking lot of a fourplex apartment where the child, a daughter of Kevin and Dione Ketchum, lived at approximately 1 p.m. He was momentarily distracted by children playing near his truck and pulled forward to avoid them.
The truck struck the child as he was moving forward.
Provo paramedics and police were momentarily delayed in responding to the scene because of an eastbound train blocking 900 West. They used overpasses on University Avenue and Center Street to get around the train when it became evident it would not be moving quickly.
Paramedics gave Ketchum cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the scene and then transported her to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. She died of head injuries at approximately 3 p.m., according to hospital spokesman Anton S. Garrity. The accident is being investigated.
