A firefighter was injured while battling an early morning fire Friday that caused extensive damage to an unoccupied home at 6828 W. 3500 South.

Firefighter Dave Taylor was operating a water hose from a ground ladder when he fell about 10 feet and landed on his shoulder and air tank. Assistant Fire Chief John Williams said Taylor was treated and released at Pioneer Valley Hospital. The fire started in a large garage adjacent to the house and was reported to the fire department at about 3:30 a.m. Radiant heat from the garage ignited the house, spreading flames through the attic, Williams said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage to the house was set at $30,000 in a preliminary estimate.
