A Salt Lake physician accused of overprescribing pain relievers to patients has agreed to a three-year probation of his license to prescribe drugs and settle charges of unprofessional conduct, an order said.

The stipulation and order issued by the state Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing said Dr. Kenneth A. Wolkoff must take courses on prescribing medications and patient record keeping while on probation.Wolkoff administered or prescribed 13,558 doses of Oxycodone or Hydrocodone over a two-year period to an arthritic patient he knew was undergoing treatment for drug dependency, the order said.

In two other cases, the order said Wolkoff prescribed drugs to patients before their prescriptions were used up, and in one instance he didn't document the prescriptions he issued in the patient's clinical record.
