The 56th annual convention for Utah PEO (Philanthropic and Educational Organization) members will be Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4, at Park City's Yarrow Inn.
Members of chapters U and W will be hostesses, with state president Helene Williams offering the opening address, "Sisters Under the Stars." Guest and keynote speaker is Barbara Jamieson from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Jamieson is chairman of the international peace scholarship fund for PEO.Friday activities include a luncheon honoring past state presidents, a memorial hour, a reception and dinner for guests and spouses. On Saturday new officers will be elected and speakers for special projects will report.
The PEO sisterhood was established in 1869 as a philanthropic and educational organization interested in bringing increased opportunities for higher education to women. Nationally, the organization maintains four educational projects, including Cottey Junior College for Women, Nevada, Mo. Locally, the state chapter maintains the Helen Abbott Fund, which provides emergency aid to deserving students, and the Susan Coda Memorial Scholarship, a grant for a woman to attend college.
