A swap meet owner who contracted AIDS after receiving blood platelets tainted with the deadly virus has sued a hospital and a blood bank for keeping him in the dark about the contaminated transfusion.

Monte Kobey, 53, founder of the popular Kobey's Swap Meet, and his wife, Charlotte, filed suit in San Diego Superior Court this week against Alvarado Hospital and the San Diego Blood Bank.The suit alleges officials learned in 1987 that Kobey had possibly been contaminated during a 1984 coronary bypass operation but withheld the information from him for six months.
