Utah Valley Community College's honors society was awarded two national awards at a recent national convention in Chicago.
The college's Phi Theta Kappa chapter was awarded the Horizon Award and the Executive Director's Achievement Award. The chapter also was selected as headquarters for the West/Northwest region. The Horizon Award recognized new advisers who participate in regional and international programs and also recognized senior advisers who have attained new levels of achievement.
The Executive Director's Achievement Award is given to newly chartered chapters that complete the first two levels in the society's Five-Star Awards hierarchy within the first year of formal organization.
The college's chapter received both these awards only four months after being chartered.
Mike Falgoust, the chapter supervisor, said, "I am very pleased with the chapter's accomplishments. We started from zero and have already received two distinquished awards in the short period of time the society has been organized."
With 137 active members, the college's chapter is the only active chapter in Utah, receiving its charter in November 1990.
