A Holladay dermatologist, who had sex with a female patient after bandaging her wounds from a suicide attempt, has agreed to a six-month suspension of his medical license, an order said.

In addition to the suspension, the order said, Dr. E. Barry Topham will be on three years probation to settle charges of unprofessional conduct.Issued by the state Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, the stipulation and order said Topham became aware of a patient's bout with depression in the course of treating her for skin disorders from 1982 to 1989.

In May 1989, the day after she attempted suicide by cutting her wrist, the patient saw Topham for treatment. Topham bandaged her wounds, discussed her suicide attempt, then had sex with her in the examination room, the order said.

Last July, the Salt Lake County Medical Society "formally censured" Topham for serious unprofessional conduct and in October placed him on

probation. All of the conditions of the probation have been met to date, the order said.
