Southern Utah University is gearing up for the arrival of nearly 1,000 high school students for the 13th annual Foreign Language Festival on April 26.

Students will compete in contests in French, German and Spanish, which include general language skills of listening comprehension, reading comprehension, writing and ability to effectively handle the structure of the language, vocabulary, poetry, oratory, culture and conversation.Prizes are awarded to students for first through third places in each level of competition, and high school seniors also can compete for a full-tuition scholarship to SUU for the first-place winner and a half-tuition scholarship for the runner-up. More than 30 schools from Utah, Arizona and Nevada are expected to participate.

The festival is sponsored by the SUU Department of Language and Literature, and its faculty and students serve as judges and coordinators.
