Community college proponents in Idaho Falls will kick off a campaign April 22 to expand Eastern Idaho Technical College into a two-year academic institution.

College of Eastern Idaho Committee member Joe Groberg said a petition for a vote on a community college will be circulated at the kickoff breakfast. The committee needs 1,000 signatures to get the community college issue on a fall ballot. The committee proposed the election be scheduled for Oct. 1 instead of Sept. 17, as well as proposing ivory and jade as the school's colors.

Campaign organizer Tim Reese proposed the new date. He said an Idaho State University professor told him elections early in the month are more successful than those later in the month.

Cliff Brady, who is collecting funds for the campaign, said he has already raised $6,500 toward an $8,000 goal.
