Vietnam is again willing to cooperate with the United States in accounting for the more than 1,700 American military personnel still missing in the Vietnam War, the State Department says.

Vietnamese officials had suspended cooperation Aug. 3 in retaliation against U.S. unwillingness to improve diplomatic relations until Hanoi withdraws troops from Cambodia.A U.S. technical team will meet next month with Vietnamese authorities in Hanoi to work out details for a joint field survey and excavation activities in Vietnam, department spokeswoman Phyllis Oakley said on Tuesday. She said a U.S. team also will visit Hanoi on Sept. 5-8 to discuss a plan to allow private American organizations to treat Vietnamese with war-related disabilities.
