Pound cake is a classic dessert standby, but a few simple changes can turn this longtime favorite into a treat everyone will rave about.
Adding brown sugar changes the flavor and produces a moister cake, said Nancy Rowland of Tuscaloosa, Ala."It makes all the difference in the world," said Rowland, who has made the cakes for 20 years. "It has the brown sugar flavor and even a little of a caramel flavor. And the texture is just marvelous. It just melts as it goes down."
The cakes can be served with a simple glaze, but they are sweet enough to be served plain or with a few slices of fresh fruit as a garnish.
