A new type of carpet that uses interwoven nylon and acrylic fibers is designed to resist flattening and matting in high-traffic areas such as family or children's rooms.

"Traffic control" carpeting, developed by Monsanto, wraps high-shrink acrylic fiber around nylon fibers to make carpet tufts more resilient, durable and bulky. The carpet also is stain-resistant.Research showed that in the '90s durability is carpet buyers' main concern, and matting topped the list of consumer complaints.
