The Worker Evaluation and Reconditioning Center, 952 E. 5400 South, has received a three-year accreditation as a full-service work hardening facility from the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.

Work hardening is the component of occupational rehabilitation that assesses the impairments and capabilities of ill and injured workers, and provides physical conditioning, work simulation and other treatments necessary to return the employees to work safely and quickly. The three-year accreditation is the maximum granted any work hardening facility by the not-for-profit organization based in Tucson, Ariz.

Key requirements in a CARF-approved facility are provisions for a full-day, five-day-a-week program and the use of physical and occupational therapists, psychologists and vocational specialists.
