The Utah State Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, has announced that Melissa Allen, a Morgan High School junior, is winner of the southwest division competition in the Constitution Essay Contest.

Allen and her teacher, Janet Wallace, will receive honors in Washington, D.C., at the 100th Continental Congress of NSDAR, where the national winner will be announced.This is the final year that NSDAR and the Commission on the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution will co-sponsor the essay contest. As the Bill of Rights was ratified Dec. 15, 1791, the commission will be disbanded on that date in 1991.

Women are eligible for membership in NSDAR who can prove direct descent from a man or woman who supported the cause for independence, 1775-1783. For information, call Mrs. Verdi R. White, Salt Lake City, or Mrs. Herschell G. Urie, state regent, Ogden.
