James John McGrath, age 76, died peacefully, while sitting in his chair at home, April 8, 1991.
He was born September 20, 1914, in Montclair, New Jersey to James J.and Katherine Woodruff McGrath. He married his sweetheart May Becker McGrath on September 14, 1940; she passed away in 1988. During the war, he was a member of the police force in Bloomfield, New Jersey. In 1945, he opened the Gay Nineties Club in Bloomfield. In the 1950's he lived in Gilford, New Hampshire, where he owned the Pine Cone Inn and Restaurant and was later an employee of Keysby-Madison in Meredith, New Hampshire. Most recently, he was employed by Gast Manufacturing in Carlstadt, New Jersey, where he worked as inventory controller from 1967 until his retirement in 1979.He is survived by his son, James John McGrath, Jr. his daughter, Marilyn (Marnie) Enke, her husband, Alan A. Enke, his grandchildren, Meagan, Erin, Liesel and Andrew Enke, all of Salt Lake city; and his sister Rita McGrath Siegel, her husband Harold Siegel, Newark, New Jersey; his brother John McGrath, Parsippany, New Jersey; and his sister-in-law Evelyn McGrath, Bloomfield, New Jersey. His wife May, his brothers William McGrath and Woodruff (Woody) McGrath, and his sisters, Kathering McGrath and Gerry McGrath Russo all preceded him in death.
He was a kind, gentle man who will be missed by his family. His grandchildren will especially miss the "Pop-Pop".
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 1991, at the Salt Lake Butler Stake Center, 7035 South Nutree Drive (3260 East). Friends may call at 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Funeral directors, Cannon Mortuary.
