Lost Creek Dam will undergo an embankment and foundation study by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation this spring as part of the national dam safety program.

Lost Creek is located 12 miles east of Devil Slide in Weber Canyon. The study will include a geologic mapping and drilling process. Mapping is expected to begin in April and continue through the summer. Exploratory drilling will begin in May and run through the first part of summer.

The earth-fill dam was built in 1966 as part of the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District project. The study will determine if layers subject to liquefaction during large magnitude earthquakes are present in the dam. In addition to installing monitoring instruments, the drilling is expected to determine whether there is a need to repair the existing foundation.
