Our kind and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Howard Burchard Norman, age 91, died April 6, 1991 in Richfield, Utah.
He was born March 11, 1900 in Hurley, South Dakota, a son of Jens Peter and Sarah Jacobson Norman. He moved with his family to Richfield, Utah in 1910 where he attended local schools. He graduated from Wasatch Academy in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. He married Vera Jane Bown November 4, 1922 in Gunnison, Utah. She died March 16, 1963. He worked as a rancher in his early years. He was then instrumental in the development of the Gunnison Telephone Co. and served as its president until his death. He was past president of the Rocky Mountain Telephone Association. He loved to golf, bowl and enjoyed working in his garden.He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Kent (Marie) Sanders, Gunnison; grandson, Howard James Sanders, Gunnison; granddaughter, Mrs. Eddie (Kirsten Sanders) Candland, Salt Lake City; five great-grandchildren, Christian, Sara, Timothy, Michael, and Max Sanders. Preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald and Ralph Norman; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Sanders.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 9, at 12 noon, in the Gunnison Stake Center, where friends may call for viewing Monday evening, 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Gunnison City Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina.
