Some 200 Filipino bar girls, waving placards and shouting "we want the bases," blocked anti-American demonstrators Saturday marching toward the U.S. Clark Air Base.

The women barricaded the road leading to the main gate of the U.S. facility in Angeles, 50 miles north of Manila, and engaged some 100 anti-bases protesters in a shouting match. After an hourlong standoff, police allowed the protesters, including students, peasants and priests, to proceed to within 100 feet of the gate, where they said a Mass.

U.S. officials closed the gate and warned servicemen stationed at the facility to stay away from the area.
