Steve Lyons, who will forever be known as the guy who dropped his pants, was placed on waivers Saturday with the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.

The move was done to make room on the roster for knuckleball pitcher Charlie Hough, who had been on the 15-day disabled list because of bone spurs in his heels.Hough, 43, who signed as a free agent this winter, will start Sunday's game against Detroit.

Lyons, 30, has been with the White Sox since 1986 when acquired from Boston in exchange for pitcher Tom Seaver. Nicknamed "Psycho" for his hyperactive behavior, Lyons batted .192 last season in 94 games.
