Two former Utahns have been promoted to fill the top two slots on the staff of Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah.

Wendy J. Higginbotham was named chief of staff, replacing Kevin McGuiness who left Hatch's staff to form a law firm in Washington.Higginbotham was Hatch's legislative director, and she is being replaced by Evan Liddiard.

Higginbotham, who was born in Salt Lake City, has been Hatch's legislative director since 1988 and worked for Hatch since 1985 in positions including executive assistant and staffer on the Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee.

Liddiard, a certified public accountant, has worked for Hatch since 1987 as a legislative assistant specializing in taxes and budget.
