A Salt Lake City firefighter inspects some of the 6,800 gallons of non-toxic calcium chloride (38 percent strength) that spilled from a two-trailer rig when the truck overturned about 6:30 p.m. Friday on the northbound lanes of the 900 South off-ramp from I-15. No one was hurt in the mishap. Cynthia Gamingasco, a Salt Lake Fire Department dispatcher, said a hazardous-materials unit from the fire department, city streets department personnel, city-county health crews and Utah Department of Transportation workers were dispatched to the scene, where some crews were still working at 9:30 p.m. Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Ken Betterton, who investigated the accident, said there was no health risk from the chemical, which is used for road-base material.
