A Sandy man was charged with manslaughter Friday in the death of a Midvale man who was a passenger in his car.
Aaron Osborn, 22, of 811 E. 8375 South, faces the second-degree felony charge in connection with the death of Shane Turner, 20, of 150 W. 7200 South.A Salt Lake County deputy sheriff located Osborn's vehicle in the middle of a Big Cottonwood Canyon stream near 4400 East on March 16. Turner's body was lying near the vehicle. Osborn told the deputy he had been driving the car and had consumed "a couple of beers," court documents state.
Witnesses indicated Osborn had passed them on a curve going 70 to 80 mph just before they saw his vehicle in the stream. The posted speed limit in the area is 40 mph. Osborn had a blood-alcohol content of .08, which is the legal limit, the court documents further state.
The court information also included alternative lesser charges of vehicle homicide, a third-degree felony, and negligent homicide, a Class A misdemeanor.
