The Ceausescu family wants land returned that the communists took from the family in 1950, the state news agency Rompres reported Friday.

It quoted Ilie Ceausescu, a brother of the late communist dictator Nikolae Ceausescu, as saying he was applying in the name of six other family members for restitution of about 28 acres of land near Scornicesti, about 155 miles west of Bucharest. One claimant, the ex-dictator's son Valentin, also applied for land in the southern village of Petresti which once belonged to the family of his mother, Elena Ceausescu.

A new law allows all Romanians to reapply for most land nationalized by the communists after they came to power in 1946.
