Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday for George S. Malouf Sr., 82, a retired Salt Lake businessman, who died April 7, 1991, of natural causes at his home.

Mr. Malouf was born Sept. 9, 1908, in Sao Palo, Brazil. His parents moved to Lebanon in 1913, and he emigrated to the United States in 1928. He operated a produce business in Utah and Wyoming for 10 years after coming to America. Later he purchased and operated Ace Billiards from 1938 to 1948, when he founded Duce Billiards in South Salt Lake.Mr. Malouf established Duce Sporting Goods and Marine and was the first businessman to open such a firm outside the downtown area. The firm opened in 1948 as a fishing and hunting retail outlet.

He became known as "Mr. Duce" to his customers. He was president of the company until his retirement in 1983.
