An Ogden man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the shaking death of his live-in girlfriend's infant son has been sentenced to one to 15 years in prison.

Mel P. Gallegos, 38, said nothing at his sentencing hearing Monday before 2nd District Judge Stanton Taylor, but defense attorney John Hutchison pleaded for leniency.Hutchison said there was no evidence that 7-month-old Adam Quade Anderson had been previously abused, and that the shaking resulted from a build-up of stress.

But Weber County Attorney Reed Richards argued for prison time, pointing out that Gallegos has a long criminal record including numerous assaults, drunken driving and one incident involving lewdness with a child.
