University of Montana men's basketball coach Stew Morrill, a Provo High graduate who led the Grizzlies to their first NCAA Tournament berth in 16 years last season, has accepted the head coaching job at Colorado State, a newspaper reported Tuesday night.

The Missoulian said CSU officials are expected to make the announcement Wednesday, and that Morrill is booked on a 7:15 a.m. flight from Missoula to Denver.Neither CSU officials nor Morrill would confirm the decision Tuesday.

"I'm not in a position to confirm that or to comment right now," Morrill said. "You can go ahead and speculate through sources. Speculation on your part probably would be fairly accurate."

Morrill, an assistant at Montana for eight seasons before he was named head coach in 1986, posted five consecutive winning records at UM, including two 20-win seasons. The Grizzlies were 23-8 last season, winning the Big Sky Conference and the league's post-season tournament.

Montana lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Nevada-Las Vegas.
