A series of open-house meetings are planned so that the public can discuss future management of three sheep allotments in Ashley National Forest near Vernal, with the first scheduled for Salt Lake City on Wednesday, April 10.

The meeting will be held in the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources auditorium, 1596 W. North Temple, starting at 7 p.m. A second session is planned for 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Ashley National Forest supervisor's office, Vernal. The grazing allotments are unallocated, although they were recently used for domestic livestock. A controversy has arisen over whether they should be used by domestic sheep or by horses, or if they should be reserved for wild bighorn sheep.

The preferred alternative outlined by the Forest Service in a draft environmental impact statement is to manage the Chepeta Lake and Whiterocks River allotments for recreation horse use, and the Lakeshore Basin Allotment for domestic sheep.
