Mickey Rourke excels in tough guy roles. Now he's going to be one.
The 34-year-old actor is jumping into the boxing ring as a professional.Rourke, who just finished a movie with Don Johnson, "Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man," said he'll make his debut May 23 at the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., as a super middleweight, 168 pounds maximum. An opponent for the sanctioned bout hasn't been named.
"I'm not doing this for the public," Rourke said. "I'm not doing this for everybody to see. I'm really doing this for myself."
Rourke had 26 amateur fights in the 1970s before acting in such films as "91/2 Weeks," "The Pope of Greenwich Village," "Diner," "Angel Heart" and "Barfly."
