A rally Thursday, April 11, will kick off recruiting for the fifth annual Salt Lake City CROP Walk, a May 18 walkathon to raise money to help the hungry. The meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. at Mount Olympus Presbyterian Church, 3280 E. 3900 South.
A representative from each church, parish and ward is invited to attend the rally, along with other interested individuals. Sponsor forms for walkers, posters and buttons will be available.The 10-kilometer CROP Walk will begin and end at Liberty Park May 18, with walkers looping through downtown Salt Lake. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m.
CROP is the name given to walks and other local community efforts to help hunger education and fundraising for Church World Services, event sponsor.
One-fourth of the proceeds will stay in Salt Lake City, benefiting programs like Crossroads Urban Center, Utahns Against Hunger, the Indian Walk-in Center, St. Vincent De Paul Center and the homeless shelter's children's assistance fund.
The other proceeds will be used in relief and self-development projects around the world. This year's goal is $10,000.
