For the second straight weekend, moviegoers shelled out more money to see "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II" than any other film, while the audience for "Dances With Wolves" surged after its big Oscar win.

Director-star Kevin Costner's "Dances With Wolves," which won the best picture Oscar and six other Academy Awards last week, surged 44 percent to $5.4 million for third place at the nation's box office, up from No. 6 a week ago.The pizza-chomping, sewer-dwelling crime fighters of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II" collected $13 million for first place in its second weekend.

The sequel to last year's surprise hit has made $39.8 million to date, Exhibitor Relations Co. reported.

"The Silence of the Lambs," a thriller starring Jodie Foster as an FBI trainee on the trail of a serial killer, took second place with $5.8 million.

In addition to "Dances With Wolves," other Oscar winners took off at the box office.

"Reversal of Fortune," whose star Jeremy Irons won the best actor trophy, advanced from $54,244 a week ago to $521,556 this weekend on 242 more screens.

"GoodFellas," whose Joe Pesci won as best supporting actor, moved from $216,991 to $344,351.

"Ghost," with supporting actress winner Whoopi Goldberg, went from $200,329 to $230,550.
