Linford Christensen, 78, died Tuesday, April 2, 1991, at his home of cancer.

He was born September 19, 1912 in Springdale, (Zion Canyon) Utah to Samuel Kendall and Lora Ann Gifford Christensen. He married Esther Porter, June 22, 1933, in the St. George LDS Temple. They lived in Escalante, American Fork, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Simi Valley, Calif. and have lived in North Ogden for the past 12 years. He received his B.A. Degree in History and Sociology in 1941 from Brigham Young University. He received his Master's Degree in Education in 1954, also from BYU. He was an active member of the LDS Church and a member of the North Ogden 1st Ward. He served two missions; one from 1934 to 1936 to the Southern States and second with his wife to Billings, Montana in 1982. He served in various church positions including High Council member; Stake Mission President; Seventies President; temple worker in the Los Angeles and Ogden LDS Temples; Young Adult leader and teacher; Scout Master; High Priest group leader; and home teacher. Mr. Christensen was a life-long educator for the LDS Church Education System. He began his career as a Seminary teacher and later became a principal. During the summers he worked as a Park Ranger at Bryce and Zion National Parks and also at Timpanogas Cave. He was also an Institute teacher and director. He was the Area Coordinator for the California Central District of Seminaries and Institutes. He was a charter member of the Lions Club in Escalante, Utah.Surviving are his wife, Esther, North Ogden; one son and three daughters, Dr. Kay Linford Christensen, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Mrs. Dale (Carol) Wride, North Ogden; Mrs. Lawrence (Ann) Searle, American Fork; Mrs. David (Joyce) Lightbourn, Simi Valley, California. He was the proud grandfather of 24 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom survive him. Also surviving are one brother and two sisters, Ortho Christensen, West Jordan; Mrs. Glendon (Elda) Heaton, Cedar City; Mrs. Thayne (Lora) Wright, Olympia Washington. Preceded in death by one son, Robert A. Christensen, by one daughter, Mrs. Rick (Linda) Christy,and by his parents, four brothers, and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at the North Ogden Stake Center, 626 East 2600 North. Friends may call at Lindquist's North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd., Friday, 6-8 p.m. and Saturday at the Stake Center 9:30-10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the North Ogden Cemetery.
