Josephine D. Alvarado Berra, 95, known to all affectionatly as Mama and Grandma, died April 3, 1991 in a Price nursing home.
Born March 19, 1896 in San Pedro, Durango, Mexico, daughter of Sa Bino Alvarado and Sanjuana Duenez. Married Mike Rizzo Berra September 6, 1929 in Grand Junction, Colorado; he died October 15, 1978. Member of the Catholic Church, long time resident of Carbon County. She moved to the U.S. in 1920, first living in Arizona and Colorado. With her brothers, she later moved to Sunnyside, Utah, then to Castle Gate in 1926, where she met and married her husband, Mike; and they raised their three children. She loved to cook and care for her family and friends. Mama Barra never let anyone leave her home without sharing her wonderful cooking. She will be dearly missed by everyone.Survived by one daughter, two sons, and spouses, Erline and Dean Dennison, Price; Angelo and Joy Berra, Helper; Ruben and DeLores Berra, Carbonville; loving niece, Juanita Soliz and children, Violet, Eddie, Jr. and Victor, all Salt Lake City; also survived by four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mass Saturday, 10 a.m., Notre Dame De Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service Friday evening at 7 p.m, at Mitchell Chapel, where friends may call Friday and Saturday prior to services. Committal service in the Price City Cemetery.
