Two women reported to police that a man resembling a serial rapist wanted in Salt Lake County came to their doors asking to check the water in their homes.
One of the women called police Thursday after seeing a composite drawing of the man on television Wednesday night, said police spokesman Gerald Nielsen. Nielsen said the woman turned the man away when he came to her home last week. The second woman called police Friday saying basically the same thing, he said.
Nielsen said he passed the information on to Salt Lake police agencies. He said Orem police have no reason to believe the man wanted in Salt Lake County is in this area, except for the two women's reports.
The man Salt Lake authorities are seeking poses as salesman selling oil changes and other automotive services.
Nielsen advised residents to be careful when opening the door to strangers.
