The Kansas Senate is scheduled to debate a bill today that would require the NCAA to follow rules of due process in enforcing its regulations.

Nebraska passed a similar law in 1990, and the legislatures of Kansas, California, Illinois, Florida, Missouri and South Carolina are considering bills this year. The bill, set for debate Monday, would require the NCAA to grant all due process rights accorded by the U.S. and state constitutions to people and institutions investigated by the NCAA for suspected rules violations.

Those include the right to confront accusers, the right of the accused to be present at hearings and the right to public hearings.
